DocInfo.org allows consumers to check whether a physician has a license to practice in a state and for disciplinary actions against the physician.
The Federation of State Medical Boards, a nonprofit organization, publishes the website using information from the medical boards of each state.
Tips for use:
– Search for a physician or physician assistant (PA) using all or part of their name. Adding a state to the search is optional. If there are no results for the physician or PA, try omitting the first name or the state.
– Each state’s board decides what information beyond licensure to report. Some states report malpractice judgments and settlements while others do not. Often, state boards report only information from the previous five years, and it may be necessary to contact a board or go to a state website for details about a disciplinary action. The website lists contact information for each state medical board.
– The FSMB charges a fee for professional credentialing.
